Choosing who you trust with your health is an important decision. While finding the right doctor might be tough, at VCU Health, we are proud to share that more than 240 of our team members have been recognized for their high-quality work in 87 specialties.

Virginia Business released its 2025 edition of ‘Virginia’s Top Doctors.’ The list includes a total of 1,423 providers who were nominated by their peers last year. Two doctors, Keyur Shah, M.D., chief of heart failure at VCU Health Pauley Heart Center, and Kathryn Holloway, M.D., director of the VCU Health’s Deep Brain Stimulation Program, were featured on the magazine’s cover for this year’s list.

With several major medical and health science schools in the commonwealth, there is steep competition to be recognized statewide. Virginia Commonwealth University’s premier health science schools are located on the same campus as VCU Medical Center, the only academic medical center in the region, so doctors in every stage of their careers are exposed to the latest innovations in patient care.

This year, Virginia Business added 27 new specialties to the list this year, including 18 new categories for pediatrics such as pediatric hematology oncology, pediatric neurology, and pediatric critical care medicine to name a few. This comes as Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU continues to expand access to high-quality care for our youngest patients at the Children’s Tower, a 16-story, state-of-the-art facility that spans a whole city block in downtown Richmond.
